Cal Talent!

Show us there's "Life after Five!"

We'd love to see your crafts, hobbies, and collections: Each year Cal Staff Summerfest gives the Berkeley campus community the opportunity to recognize the importance of staff employees and their contributions to the mission of the University of California, Berkeley. The “Hobbies & Crafts” subcommittee would like to invite you to participate in the “Cal Staff Life After Five Showcase” where we will acknowledge the abundance of creative talents and broad knowledge base of our staff community.

If you are one of our “crafty” staff members who are engaged in a creative endeavor then we welcome you to display your items at Cal Staff Summerfest 2007. To qualify as a “craft” the items must be made or designed by the employee. Participants are not permitted to sell their items at Cal Summerfest. As an alternative, flyers or business cards may be distributed and orders may be taken at the event.

If you have a hobby like building model cars, planes, running and designing layouts for model trains or doll houses we invite you to share them with our staff. If you are a photographer, painter or artist who has yet to be discovered, we would love to view your work. Whatever the hobby or collection, we would love for you to participate.

Are you caught up in the mad world of collecting stamps, dolls, coins, old toys, holiday ornaments or vintage model cars? We would love for you to bring a sample of your collection (space permitting) and/or photos and the stamina to answer any questions that your collection will generate. You may be surprised to find that one of your fellow faculty or staff members might want to purchase your item or share an interest in your hobby or collection. You’ll never know unless you participate!

Sign up! You know you want to.

It’s easy to sign up! Just send the “Crafts” subcommittee an email (kitc@berkeley.edu) with a short description (three or four lines) about your passion and we will provide the table space. If no table is required, you will be provided with a 3ft. section in the craft’s area for your showcase. If you do not need the entire 3 ft. section, we may partner you with another staff member that has a small display. If participants are planning to drive a vehicle to unload their display, participants will need to arrive between 9:30-11:30 am to set up their display. If participants are planning to walk-in with their display, participants need to arrive before 12:30pm. Participants need to staff their display during the entire event, and break down and completely clean their area after the event.

Call or email the Crafts Committee immediately to get your spot. Give us a short description (three or four lines) about your passion so we can know what to offer for your display space. We'll get back to you with a confirmation.
