History

Summerfest was developed in 1986 by the Chancellor's Staff Advisory Committee (CSAC). Since then a committee of staff volunteers has annually organized the event, with the assistance of the Chancellor's office and local businesses.

Summerfest 2008 will feature refreshments, staff organizations, carnival games, and prizes. Attendees will be required to show their Staff ID card to receive food and prizes. Click here to see Acceptable IDs for Summerfest

Staff, Faculty, Academics and Post Docs are encouraged to attend and participate. Supervisors are authorized to grant two hours of administrative leave with pay so that staff can join in the festivities.

Shuttles will be available for those not based on the central campus.

The Cal Summerfest planning committee recruits volunteers to help with the event.

Note for Supervisors: Summerfest is a fine opportunity to recognize and appreciate our valued UC Berkeley staff, so consider volunteering. Serving them in this way will be very meaningful to your employees.

Mission

• Ensure that the summerfest event is unique in nature and enjoyable for all attendees.
• Ensure that all faculty and staff are included in events, raffles and satellite promotions.
• Provide high quality prizes and entertainment for all faculty and staff members.
• Provide signage, maps, online information and literature to help create awareness and promote the event.
• Provide event participation by high level management to encourage communication and dialogue between higher-level management, faculty and staff members.
